R.O.T
Norway is the leading home renovator in Europe. Every year, 94.000.000.0000 NOK is spent demolishing, refurbishing and renovating over 868.000 homes. This business sector is called "rehabilitation, rebuilding and annexing" - in Norwegian, this is shortened to ROT, which also means "mess".
Why are Norwegians so keen on renovating our homes, starting new projects every 2.8 years? Estimates show that only a little over half of renovation projects are actually necessary to improve living standards - the rest is done for aesthetic reasons or price appreciation. Seeing as Norwegians spend on average 22 out of 24 hours indoors, there is no surprise that we would like our homes to be aesthetically pleasing. Even less surprising, then, that 1 out 3 Norwegians had their homes renovated during COVID-19.
